Not that long ago I was a University student, I was a ‘mature student’ – which is anyone over the age of 21, and I was lucky enough to have my tuition fees paid for me by the govt and taxman – fair deal I thought as I am a little bit older, have paid into the tax system, have done my time working for the NHS. I did take out a loan which I have slowly paid back, so we are all square.
But what of today’s students? ‘Mature’ or still young, fresh out of school or the obligatory gap year, they are having to fork out unbelievable amounts of money to get a further education. Tuition fees is a political hot potato at the moment – yet in some parts of the world it is accepted that to go to university and gain a degree, you get into massive debt, work 3 jobs a week, study hard, but it all pays off. Maybe we have had it too easy in this country – free education, free NHS – a Utopian dreamland that has been consigned to the history books.
But does it have to be hard as a student? Totally Wicked would suggest not. It is accepted that as a student you are going to be in debt for a while to come. You smoke as well? Double whammy, as the price of fags is going to keep on rising as the government do everything they can to squeeze more money from people to fill the constantly draining coffers. But, what you can do – if you are a student of any age, is save some money by vaping. If you have a serious smoking habit, and you switch to vaping completely, you can save yourself about £2k a year. That is not to be laughed at when you are learning to budget and your fees will be anything between £3k to £9k.
Want to make it even easier on yourself? If you have an entrepreneurial streak in you- one of those 3 jobs could be selling TW products to your fellow students – helping them to save money, and at the same time you earn much needed money, and you learn the ropes of economics and running a real business – balancing your own books, making sure you have enough stock, finding out how to sell, finding out what sells, and probably making contacts and deals along the way. I know when I was at Uni they didn’t teach us that, and these are life skills well worth having.
TW will be at the UCLAN fresher’s fair on Thursday the 15th Sept, in the Atrium, Meet Alain our marketing manager to find out more – just look for the Smoking Joker.
