You might be wondering what could be hazardous about the body of an electronic cigarette; it’s made from steel isn’t it?
Yes and No.
Since 2006 there are certain substances that have been banned in the making and producing of electrical goods that are sold within the EU, and these are: lead, mercury, Hexavalent chromium, PBB, PBDE and cadmium. This ban falls under the RoHS directive, RoHS standing for ‘removal of hazardous substances’. Some of these banned substances have been found in alloys and paints that make up some electronic goods on sale in the UK.
If you look closely on the box that your e-cig comes in, you will see a few small symbols, one of which is ‘RoHS’ with a tick beside it. RoHS is monitored and policed by the National Measurement Office (NMO) – a governmental body that is there to make sure you get what you pay for and that what you get is safe; none of the nasty’s mentioned above. The NMO Officers check that when the RoHS sign is on a product, it really means that all hazardous substances have been removed, and has not been put there for decorative purposes.
So how do we know none of these banned substances are in Totally Wicked electronic cigarettes? In the e-cig paint or solder? Electronic cigarettes are made in China, and they don’t have the best record in the world, plus, talk to any Trading Standards Official and they will shake their head wearily at some of the imports and mention phrases like ‘golden products’.
But you can be rest assured because here at TW we do know, and our e-cigs are safe from these chemicals, and we know this for a fact. Totally Wicked e-cigs have been tested by a government approved laboratory for RoHS work, and have been found to be free of the six banned substances. The first step was to have our kits tested, a random selection was made – from some of the kits and spare parts that we supply, and they came back clear. The next step is to make sure we have all the right markings on our products and packaging and have systems in place to make sure we are doing all that we can to stay within the RoHS directive.
Totally Wicked are a company that like to have fun, but we take your safety seriously.
