What Is E-liquid?
E-liquid is a liquid that is used to fill the pod or tank of a kit. Generally available in 10ml bottles, it can be used with a variety of vape pen kits and refillable pod kits. E-liquid is made by combining Propylene Glycol (PG), Vegetable Glycerine (VG), Flavourings and Nicotine together right here in our factory in Blackburn.
How Does E-liquid Work?
First, break the seal and unscrew the child resistant bottle cap. Then, simply squeeze into your preferred kit. This can be through side filling, bottom-filling or top filling.
Once the liquid is in a new pod or tank, it’s advised to let it prime the wick and allow the e-liquid to soak in for at least 5 minutes. This prevents it from tasting burnt and can avoid you having to replace your coil or pod quicker than expected.
The e-liquid is heated via an internal coil. When this e-liquid is heated, a vapour is created, which is what you inhale when you vape.
Different types of e-liquids give different experiences. For example, our range of nic salts will give you a smoother vaping experience than freebase nicotine.
What Are The Different Types Of E-liquids?
Although e-liquids may all look the same, they don't all necessarily taste the same or give the same vaping experiences. The many types of vape juice have evolved over the years, with Totally Wicked tailoring the PG/VG ratio to the preferences of different vapers.
In the early days of vaping, most e-liquids were relatively high in PG. Not long after, manufacturers started to add more VG to the mix, giving vapers a smoother throat hit that still resembled cigarettes. Most agreed that as 70/30 PG/VG liquids started to get overtaken by 50/50, the “mouth-feel” and more visible vapour of the additional VG was a good thing.
This led to the introduction of high VG 20/80 liquids which created the social media influencer frenzy for cloud chasers.
And finally, today we have Nic salts and Bar Salt liquids. Nicotine salts give a smoother experience, with less “throat hit”, which a lot of people prefer.
Bar salts such as VLTZ are made to replicate the same great flavour you can find in our VLTZ flex Pro range. They are compatible with any of our pod kits .
What Are The Ingredients In E-liquid?
There are 4 main ingredients found in most e-liquids. They all have a special part to play in giving you the best vaping experience.
The 2 main ingredients in most vape juice are propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG). PG is a good carrier for nicotine and flavourings, while VG gives the vapour a smoother, rounder feel in the mouth, and increases the density of the vapour.
We also include flavouring in almost all our liquids. These e-liquid flavours include some of the most sought after flavours on the market, such as Blue Razz Lemonade and Iced Blackcurrant.
Finally we introduce nicotine, this can be added in up to 8 different strengths allowing you to choose the right nicotine intake you desire.
Some of our ranges are available nicotine free, meaning they would only have 3 main ingredients.
What Are The Different Nicotine Strengths In E-liquid?
Nicotine strengths can be represented in % or mg/ml, to find the mg/ml from a % you can simply remove the decimal as follows: 0.0% is 0mg/ml, 1.0% is 10mg/ml and 1.8% is 18mg/ml.
If you’re looking for the different nicotine strengths in E-liquids, it depends on which brand you choose. To make this easier I have compiled a table below with each available nicotine strength and e-liquid.
Nicotine Strengths | 0.0% | 0.3% | 0.6% | 1.0% | 1.1% | 1.4% | 1.6% | 1.8% |

If you are vaping to give up smoking, then the highest level is recommended. If you are wanting to cut down on nicotine intake, you can gradually work your way down to 0mg nicotine free e-cig juice.
How Do I Store E-liquid Properly?
E-liquid quality and shelf life can be significantly impacted by environmental factors. Extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, and exposure to oxygen should be avoided. Follow these simple steps to properly store opened and unopened e-liquid bottles:
- Tighten lids completely to seal bottles and prevent air exposure.
- Keep bottles in a cool, dark space away from heat sources like radiators or stoves. A cupboard or pantry works perfectly.
- Refrigeration is not required but is acceptable if space allows.
- Store bottles upright and check for leaks occasionally. Discard any bottles with signs of leakage.
With proper storage, unopened e-liquids can last up to two years before expiration. Even opened bottles can maintain quality until empty when sealed and kept away from light, heat, and air. Following these basic guidelines will maintain flavour and nicotine integrity over time. Contact us if you have any other questions about getting the most out of your e-liquid purchases.
FAQ
Do Your E-liquids Contain Any Diacetyl or Acetoin?
Due to our vape juice being made right here in our own laboratory, we can assure you that any e-liquid bought from totally wicked will be clear from chemicals such as diacetyl and acetoin. The MHRA banned diacetyl from being added to e-liquids in 2016.
Are Your E-liquids Compatible With My Refillable Vape?
Yes, our e-liquids are designed to be compatible with all standard vape pod kits and vape pens. We offer bundle packages that pair e-liquids with the ideal vape kit also to make sure you get the best vape experience. The only exception to this is VLTZ 10ml E-liquids, where we make recommendations of some specific devices.
How Long Do Your E-liquids Typically Last?
If correctly stored and the lids are correctly tightened, e-liquids can last up to 2 years. You may start to see a browning of the vape juice over time, this is just the nicotine reacting with flavouring components, and is nothing to worry about.
We advise you to check the dates on the bottles if you are unsure.
Why Does My E liquid Look Yellow?
If your vape juice is yellow in colour, then it is likely you're using a higher nicotine strength. If you have a low nicotine bottle, it will initially be a clear colour but over time it will begin to get a yellowish tinge due to nicotine oxidation.
Another factor could be the flavourings. This is not due to the flavour colouring but the concentrate itself. You may find if you have a vanilla flavoured e-liquid with high nicotine, this will initially begin yellow before going more darkish. This is due to the reaction of the vanillin concentrate that gives it the vanilla flavouring.
