Here is a run down of the fundamentals of an electronic cigarette.
All electronic cigarettes contain an atomizer head, known by many names including vape coil. This has a coil of resistance wire with a wick running through the middle of it, or placed around the outside of it. Electricity passes through the coil heating it and in turn vaporizing the e-liquid soaked on the wicking material.
Older designs of disposable “cartomizer”(cartridge/atomizer) used wadding material that was pre-soaked with e-liquid. The modern tank provides a ‘reservoir’ that keeps your atomizer soaked with e-liquid. Tank’s are much easier to refill and much more cost effective. Before you had to throw the whole reservoir away, now the tank itself can last for months, if not years.
To vaporize your e-liquid electrical power heats the atomizer coil. This electricity is usually supplied by a lithium battery. Lithium battery technology provides the most power in the lightest, smallest package. Some batteries are removable, this allows them to be replaced when they reach the end of their life. Some are permanently integrated into the e-cigarette’s body.
This might take the form of a simple mechanical switch, all the way to full temperature control. Most e-cigs have a way of ensuring electricity heats the atomizer in a controlled way. Many allow the power output to be adjusted, using variable voltage, variable wattage or variable temperature controls. This allows full customisation of your vaping experience.
When we draw on the mouthpiece, air is directed over or through the atomizer coil to collect the vaporized e-liquid. Adjustable airflow is present in the majority of electronic cigarette tanks. This allows the resistance to airflow to be personalized.
