Everyone reaches a point where they have to stop and say “no more”, and we have just reached it. No longer can we sit back and allow lies and deceit to shape our vaping industry. The programme aired on the evening of February 6th on ITV titled “Is your vape safe?” was the most unbalanced and misleading media “report” on vaping to date, and Totally Wicked will not stand by, we will take action.
The programme itself was incredibly one-sided, with a focus centred on deaths in the USA. There was not the slightest mention of the fact that these tragic incidents were due to the use of illicit THC cartridges, and there was no distinction that the cause wasn’t ‘vaping’ in general. The truth remains that vaping saves lives.
There was no mention of the millions of deaths caused by smoking every year worldwide, nor was there any consideration of the fact that this programme, with its bias, will actually contribute to these deaths in the long run, by negatively influencing people who may have considered vaping as their way to escape the chains of combustible tobacco addiction.
We have to ask the most important question, what is driving this anti-vaping agenda? The conclusion we keep coming back to is money. Liam Humberstone Totally Wicked Technical Director had this to say:
“It is unfortunate that most things in life seem to be driven by economics rather than moral or ethical considerations. In the USA vaping has been pushed to the fringe of acceptability by media and government agencies, and this will continue all the time it is in so many US States’ financial interest to preserve income from tobacco sales. Until now the UK had seemed to be suffering collateral damage from the situation in the USA, and it is hard to understand what might motivate such extremes of unbalanced journalism as last night’s ITV report. It is very unlikely to be as simple as ignorance or stupidity, although this is very much the way the report came across to anyone that understands the subject matter well.”
We cannot be the only voice. We need others to rise up and fight with us to combat the petulant and biased narrative that is being laid out before the country, being put in front of current smokers and vapers, marring the view of vaping in general and turning people away from this lifesaving product.
