News reports in the past week have resurfaced which suggest that if you vape while driving could result in prosecution<\/a>. The claim is that using an e-cigarette at the wheel could land you with fines of up to \u00a32500 and points on your licence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The style of these news articles is again over-exaggerated as is unfortunately often the case when it comes to vaping. The headlines suggest that if you are caught vaping you would be automatically prosecuted. This is not the case so let us put your mind at ease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vaping and Driving is not Illegal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This topic previously hit the headlines in February, 2018. The story was covered by Vaped at the time as we explained that vaping behind the wheel is not illegal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The situation still remains the same. The offence refers to being distracted from driving, whether this is due to vaping or another activity. Sergeant John Davis said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Any person who is distracted in any way could be guilty of an offence \u2013 whether that be smoking, vaping or eating.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sergeant Karl Knapp reiterated the fact that vaping and driving is not illegal as he suggested how to do it safely. He said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If you are going to vape I advise that you open your windows and blow the vapour directly out, just ensure that you are in full control of your vehicle before doing so.”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
