The six-month campaign aims to educate the public on how vaping has helped a significant number of people stop smoking. Keen to kick fearmongering and falsehoods to the kerb, the IBVTA is armed with facts, figures, and first-hand accounts that will make you question everything you thought you knew about vaping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-will-the-campaign-address\">What Will the Campaign Address?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The role of the vaping industry in helping the UK go smoke-free<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The industry\u2019s sustainability and recycling responsibilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The vaping sector\u2019s responsibilities regarding cracking down on illicit vapes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adequate widespread circulation of facts to quash misinformation and scaremongering<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The IBVTA has released a series of images and animations to spread their important message. These will feature on billboards, social media, and via press releases and interviews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo aligncenter wp-embed-aspect-18-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"IBVTA Video\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/870688635?h=39f872ff91&amp;dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">IBVTA Campaign Video<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-is-the-ibvta\">What is the IBVTA?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The IBVTA is a collective, born out of the need for the provision of support, guidance and knowledge to the independent vape sector. It isn\u2019t owned by any individual or group of companies. In fact, the IBVTA is owned by its members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c All IBVTA members are free from any ownership or control by the tobacco and pharmaceutical industries.\u201d<a href=\"#_edn1\" id=\"_ednref1\">[i]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The collective does have a team of experts who provide advice and information to members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Totally Wicked is proud to be a member of the IBVTA. It also focuses on clearing up confusion around vaping, so people are aware of the facts rather than having to rely on the misinformation that is perpetually published and reported via various media. The campaign references the support given by the Government to vaping as a smoking cessation tool, including statements from the Minister of Public Health, Neil O\u2019Brien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In April 2023, O\u2019Brien said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>Vaping is already estimated to contribute to about 50,000 to 70,000 additional smoking quits per year in England. However, vapes are not yet being used widely enough to reach their full potential as smoking quit aids, showing the potential power of it as a tool. A \u2018swap to stop\u2019 partnership is a scheme where smokers are provided with a vape starter kit alongside behavioural support to help them completely stop smoking.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister goes on to highlight international research that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cShows that smokers who use a vape every day are 3 times more likely to quit smoking, interestingly, even if they didn\u2019t intend to quit smoking.\u201d<a id=\"_ednref2\" href=\"#_edn2\">[ii]<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"why-is-the-ibvta-campaign-needed\">Why is the IBVTA Campaign Needed?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The UK Government aims for the UK to be smokefree by 2030<a href=\"#_edn3\" id=\"_ednref3\">[iii]<\/a>. The IBVTA wholeheartedly supports the Government\u2019s campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once upon a time, vaping was viewed solely (and rightly so) as an effective way for smokers to quit their unhealthy habit. Now, it is apparent that negative press is stifling news of the benefits of vaping, thus jeopardising the number of people pursuing a healthier lifestyle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"current-perceptions-of-vaping\">Current Perceptions of Vaping<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the 2023 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.totallywicked-eliquid.co.uk\/vaped\/quit-smoking-stats-revealed-in-ash-report\/\">ASH report<\/a>, 43% of adults in the UK think that vaping is as harmful as smoking , or even <em>more <\/em>harmful than smoking. This type of mindset has the potential to deter people from switching from tobacco products to vapes. It could even potentially push vapers back to smoking. In short, this kind of reaction to misinformation has the potential to jeopardise the health of ex-smokers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The environmental impact of vaping and the dangers of fake vapes&nbsp; are also important issues that the IBVTA campaign will address.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"sustainability-and-the-vaping-sector\">Sustainability and the Vaping Sector<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Many news outlets report on the problems caused by littered vapes and associated detritus. However, many fail to highlight that the most commonly littered item in the UK is cigarette butts<a href=\"#_edn4\" id=\"_ednref4\">[iv]<\/a>. This of course does not negate the need to tackle littered and incorrect disposal of vapes.&nbsp; The IBVTA supports sustainability<a href=\"#_edn5\" id=\"_ednref5\">[v]<\/a> and encourages its members to encourage recycling through all channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This can be by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Encouraging customers to bring their used vapes into stores to be recycled<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Signing up to&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/electricalwaste-producer-supplier-responsibilities\/join-the-distributor-takeback-scheme\">Distributor Takeback Scheme <\/a>&nbsp;(DTS) if you sell vapes online only<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communicating your recycling options via all appropriate means \u2013 in store, online, and via direct communications if applicable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-ibvta-and-the-war-on-fake-vapes\">The IBVTA and the war on fake vapes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The IBVTA is unequivocal about its stance on illegal vapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IBVTA\u2019s CEO, Gillian Golden states:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cIllegal products which find their way onto the UK market filled with as much as 20ml of e-liquid, and for which safety tests are not supplied to the MHRA, are a tangible threat to consumers and the legitimate sector alike.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Equally complicit are the retailers who choose to stock these products or suggest ignorance to where they are sourced. As an industry we must continue to support greater resources to stop these products reaching the UK market in the first place.<\/em><em>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ibvta-vape-forum\">IBVTA Vape Forum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaign begins ahead of the IBVTA Forum, which takes place in Birmingham on 26<sup>th<\/sup> October, 2023<a href=\"#_edn6\" id=\"_ednref6\">[vi]<\/a>. The forum presents the opportunity for vaping industry professionals to network with industry leaders, as well as attend informative sessions led by respected knowledgeable speakers.
