The vaping industry has recently welcomed a newcomer: the 4-in-1 vape. Pioneering companies like IVG first introduced these innovative kits in the UK in 2023, and their popularity has increased substantially in just a year.
So, what’s behind the rapid rise of 4 in 1 vapes? In this article, I'll explore the features and benefits of these devices, look into the legal considerations surrounding their use, and present a neutral review of the two available devices from Totally Wicked.
What is a 4 in 1 vape?
4-in-1 vape kits consist of a single use or rechargeable battery, plus four pre-filled, replaceable pods, each containing up to 2ml e-liquid.
These pod kits adhere to the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations (TRPR), which limit e-liquid tank capacity to 2ml. Each pod features a built-in mesh coil that delivers the flavour and nicotine. When a pod is empty, you can easily change it for a new one by simply rotating the pod holder.
Some popular examples of 4 in 1 vapes I’ve come across are the IVG 2400 and the Crystal 4-in-1. The IVG 2400 features a single-use battery with a capacity of 1750mAh, designed to last through all four included pods. The Crystal 4-in-1 prioritises sustainability with a smaller, rechargeable 950mAh battery and the option to purchase replacement pods separately.
While both devices offer the convenience of a disposable vape with a variety of flavours to choose from, the SKE Crystal 4-in-1 aligns more closely with the increasing emphasis on reducing electronic waste, which I appreciate.
Are 4 in 1 Vapes Legal?
Yes, 4 in 1 vapes are legal. They adhere to the regulations set out by the
Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). These regulations state that e-cigarette tanks (pods) should be limited to no more than 2ml of e-liquid. 4 in 1 vape kits can hold four 2ml pods, providing up to 8ml of e-liquid per device.
Another factor is the nicotine strength. The regulations state, they should not exceed the maximum allowance, which is 20mg/ml. These multi-flavour pod kits generally hold the highest nicotine strength.
Big Puff or 4 in 1 Vapes?
4 in 1 vapes, like the SKE Crystal 4 in 1 and the IVG 2400, are often called big puff vapes because they’re designed for extended use compared to standard disposable vapes. They typically have a higher puff count and are a longer-lasting vape option compared to disposables.
What makes a 4 in 1 vape unique is that they contain four separate 2ml pods within a single device, unlike other big puff vapes such as the Elf Bar AF5000 which instead utilises an attachable 10ml refill container. Some, like the IVG 2400, come with four pods of the same flavour, while others, like the SKE Crystal 4 in 1, allow you to buy different pods separately.
Different kits vary mainly in battery life. For example, the IVG 2400 is single-use and has a 1750mAh battery intended to last through all four of its 2ml pods. The Crystal 4 in 1 has a rechargeable 950mAh battery and is made for longer use, which I prefer.
Another example of a big puff vape is the Lost Mary BM6000. While it’s not a 4 in 1, it offers extended use with 10+2ml of e-liquid and a 650mAh rechargeable battery. It features a main pod chamber pre-filled with 2ml of flavoured Lost Mary e-liquid and an additional 10ml attachable bottle, providing up to 6000 puffs.
4 in 1 Vapes Review
Crystal 4 in 1
The SKE Crystal 4 in 1 is a pre-filled pod system that offers an alternative to single-use disposable vapes like SKE Crystal Bars, while still providing a similar vaping experience. This vape kit includes four pre-filled 2ml pods, offering up to 2400 puffs, and features a rechargeable 950mAh battery. Each pod uses mesh coil technology and contains 20mg/ml (20%) of nicotine.
Key Features:
Rechargeable Battery: The device features a rechargeable battery that I can easily charge using a USB-C cable.
Rotating Pod Mechanism: The Crystal 4 in 1 allows you to switch between four different flavours using a rotating pod mechanism, indicated by a flavour window on the device.
Pre-filled Pods: It comes with four pre-filled 2ml pods, with each pod estimated to provide 600 puffs.
Wide Range of Flavours: The device offers a variety of combinations, with both single-flavour and multi-flavour options available for purchase. You can also buy replacement pods in five mixed-flavour editions.
Pros:
Cost-Effective: The Crystal 4 in 1 is more cost-effective than purchasing multiple disposable vapes.
Longer Lifespan: The rechargeable battery offers a longer lifespan compared to single-use vapes.
Variety of Flavours: The option to choose different pre-filled pods provides a wider range of flavour experiences.
Ease of Use: Similar to disposables, the Crystal 4 in 1 is draw-activated and dosnt need any adjustments tot he settings.
Cons:
Limited Battery Life: The rechargeable 950mAh battery, while convenient, may not offer the same longevity as vapes like the IVG 2400.
The SKE Crystal 4 in 1 is a practical and affordable choice. This kit offering the convenience of disposable devices with the added benefits of durability and longevity. The rechargeable battery gives you the option of buying replacement of pods, removing the need to recycle the entire device. Another positive is the flavour range, with a good selection of combinations to choose from.
IVG 2400 Review
The IVG 2400, like the Crystal 4 in 1, is disposable vape that includes four separate, pre-filled 2ml pods, providing a total of up to 2400 puffs. The device is draw-activated and comes with a built-in 1750mAh battery which is designed to last through all four pods. The IVG 2400 is a mouth-to-lung (MTL) device, offering a vaping experience similar to a cigarette, and contains 20mg/ml (20%) of nicotine in each pod.
Key Features:
- Four Pre-filled Pods: The device features a rotating system containing four 2ml pods, each with an integrated mesh coil to enhance flavour.
- High Puff Count: With an estimated 2400 puffs, the IVG 2400 offers extended use compared to standard disposable vapes, matching the SKE Crystal.
- Variety of Flavours: The IVG 2400 is available in 13 editions, each featuring a different combination of four flavours. I prefer this wider variety over the SKE Crystal’s flavours.
- Ease of Use: The IVG 2400 is draw-activated, which means it has no button presses or adjustments to settings. To switch between pods, I can simply lift and twist the top compartment to align the desired flavour.
Pros:
Convenience: The IVG 2400 is designed for convenience, thanks to it’s long-lasting battery and the ability to switch between flavours.
Cost-Effective: While the upfront cost of the IVG 2400 is higher than a standard disposable, the total puff count makes it a more cost-effective option in the long run.
Flavour Variety: Comes with a wide range of multi-flavour and single-flavour options.
Cons:
Non-Rechargeable Battery: Although the battery is designed to last for the duration of all four pods. It also has a non rechargeable battery which is an instant negative for me. Once the battery is empty, the entire device, must be disposed of responsibly.
The IVG 2400 is a convenient and longer-lasting option which is certain to appeal to fans of disposable vapes. The inclusion of four different flavour pods within the device offers increased choic. Potentially this gives better value compared to purchasing multiple single-flavour disposables.
4 in 1 Vape Alternatives
Pre-filled and Refillable Pod Kits
I’ve found that the VLTZ Flex Pro Bar and similar kits offer a good balance between convenience and cost-effectiveness. These kits utilise replaceable pods that come pre-filled with e-liquid while also offering the option for refillable pods that allow me to use my favourite Totally Wicked e-liquids.
Vape Kits
Among the vape kits I’ve tried, the Eleaf iStick i75 stands out for its impressive 3000mAh battery capacity. This allows me to enjoy extended vaping sessions without constantly needing to recharge.
Another kit I'm keen on is the Tornado EN, which replicates the experience of disposable vapes thanks to it being a Mouth-to-lung (MTL) vape. A major plus is the fact I can use these kits with a range of e-liquids, including popular options such as Red Label and VLTZ bar salts, rather than having to use the restricted selection of flavours provided with the aforementioned 4 in 1 vapes.
