"This vape kit is convenient, pocket-sized, and really simple to use, but also boasts impressive versatility and works brilliantly with VLTZ E-liquid!"
The Opal is the latest device that uses the GTL cartridge and GTL range of atomizer heads, forming a trilogy of products with the arc Impact and Tornado GTL. The Opal is the most compact vape of this trio and looks set to provide a great option for disposable vapers, who are upgrading to an open system.
I was one of the first to get my hands on one, here's what I thought of it...

Look and Feel - A Great Small Vape
I'll start by saying, this is now my new go-to device. At first glance, I was a big fan of the aesthetics with its small form and bright red finish. When I picked it up, the weight of the device caught me a little off guard – in a good way. It was incredibly lightweight as if I'd just picked up a disposable. This is a huge plus for me as I've never been keen on lugging around heavy mods.
Beyond the size and weight, the design and finish of the Opal are bright and eye-catching without being garish. There are four colour options available. Go for red, green, or blue if you like a vibrant e-cig or, if you prefer a classic look, opt for black.
Ease of Use
Of late, I've tended to stick to single-use vapes but I'm becoming increasingly aware of the need to be more environmentally conscious. But conflicting with this is the fact I've grown accustomed to the convenience of disposables so I was hoping the Opal wasn't too faffy. My prayers were answered and more:
- The atomizer heads are easy to change,
- The cartridge is easy to fill
- The power settings are easy to navigate.
The TW Opal is a pod-style kit with changeable GTL atomizer heads. These use a push-fit connection, so after quickly priming the coil, I simply pushed it into the pod. Quick, clean, and easy. The pod then just slots into the body with a magnetic connection, adding yet another layer of simplicity.
Refilling the Opal Vape Kit
I was delighted to see that the Opal was sliding top fill. The top cap easily slides across to reveal the filling port... You don't even need to remove the pod from the body to refill.
Out comes my bottle of VLTZ Blue Razz Lemonade e-liquid and into the GTL cartridge it goes.
As VLTZ E-liquid is only suitable for certain devices I was apprehensive to see how it performed and if the atomizer head lasted. Before letting you know how it fared, I'm going to leave you in suspense a little longer and cover some more key features of the Opal vape kit.
The Adjustability of The Opal Vape Kit
The Opal features adjustable wattage, which works uniquely. I initially had mine set to 15W which was perfect for the 0.8ohm atomizer head which comes included. However, I quickly figured there were seven power settings, going up in 2 or 3-watt increments from 10 – 25W. This adjustability is ideal if you want to use one of the other GTL atomizer heads, such as the 1.2ohm or 0.4ohm versions. Changing the power setting couldn't be easier. Just use the up and down buttons at the foot of the device and your current level will be shown on the front display.
The airflow is also adjustable on the Opal and is altered by using the lever system on the back of the device. Current airflow can then be viewed at the window on the side of the battery. I had it about halfway open but if you prefer a tighter or airier draw, the airflow versatility is there for you.
Atomizer Head Performance
The GTL Atomizer heads have quickly become one of the most popular ranges at Totally Wicked. Not only are they push fit but they also perform really well in terms of flavour and longevity. Included with the Opal kit is the 0.8ohm version.
0.4ohm and 1.2ohm versions are also available as accessories if you prefer more or less power.
The vapour production from this atomizer head was impressive, but it was the flavour that stood out for me. I was using my go-to VLTZ Blue Razz Lemonade e-liquid and the flavour representation was phenomenal. I was therefore keen to see how long this intense flavour would last before I needed a new atomizer.
As a general rule, I like my atomizer head to last for a minimum of 10ml of e-liquid before it needs changing. I was impressed to find that after the first 10ml bottle of VLTZ, the flavour was still perfect. In total, I got through 20ml of VLTZ before the flavour started to degrade. That's a win for me as it's equivalent to 10 disposables for less than £10* worth of e-liquid!
*Based on £4.99 RRP for a bottle of VLTZ e-liquid.
Opal Vape Kit Battery Life
The 1500mAh battery capacity of the Opal is pretty good for a kit of its size and stature. It lasted me a full day of vaping between charges which is always a positive. I plugged it in to recharge and was pleasantly surprised at how fast this thing recharged! In just under an hour, it was back to full capacity, thanks to USB-C charging. While the battery doesn’t last quite as long as my previously preferred open tank device, the Tornado GTL, the difference was only slight.
The battery life will vary depending on your power output. If you're using a 0.4ohm atomizer head at 25W, it's unlikely to last a full day. However, at lower powers, many vapers will be able to go all day between charges.
Value for Money
Whether you're upgrading from a disposable or just looking for a new simple vape to use, the Opal is good value for money. At £29.99, there are cheaper vapes on the market, but there are very few (if any) that are as fully featured and perform as well as the Opal at this price point.
I was previously using disposables, so upgrading to the Opal has already saved me a pretty penny. I would go through around 5 disposables a week, costing around £25. With the Opal, I get through a 10ml bottle of VLTZ E-liquid a week and change my atomizer head every 2 weeks. This atomizer head and e-liquid cost around £25 a month. That's an impressive £75 saving per month since switching from disposables to an open system like the Opal.
Even including the initial purchase of the device, I've saved £45 in the first month. Better still, the Opal has a much lower environmental impact than disposables, while retaining the intense flavour and much of the convenience.
Echoing my opening thoughts, the Totally Wicked Opal is a fantastic little device and is now my go-to e-cig. It's convenient, pocket-sized, and really simple to use, but also boasts impressive versatility and works brilliantly with VLTZ E-liquid!
