With the excitement of the European Championships in neighbouring Germany now a fond memory, it’s time for the world’s attention to shift to the grand spectacle of the 2024 Olympic Games in France. If you’re planning to make the short trip to the games, it’s best to familiarize yourself with any regulations regarding vaping at the Olympic Games 2024.
The following guide aims to provide clarity on vaping at the summer olympic games 2024, ensuring visitors can enjoy their vape kits responsibly while respecting local laws and customs. I'll cover where vaping is permitted, where it’s prohibited, and any upcoming changes in regulations.
Additionally, you will find tips for those planning to bring their own vaping supplies to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience during the Games.
History of The Olympic Games?
The Olympic Games originated in ancient Greece as a religious festival honouring Zeus at Olympia. They were first recorded in 776 BC, and revived in 1896 after a 1503-year hiatus. The first modern Games, held in Athens, were inspired by Frenchman Baron Pierre de Coubertin.
Modern additions like the torch relay, Olympic oath, and Winter Games were introduced in later years, with the five-ring flag, a symbol with no ancient basis, appearing in 1908. Contrary to popular belief, the marathon, first included in the 1896 Games, was not an event in ancient times.[i]
Where is the 2024 Olympic Games?
The summer 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held across France, using existing infrastructure to minimise both the budget and carbon footprint. While Paris will be the central hub, events will also take place in the surrounding region, along the Seine Riverbanks, and in cities like:
- Paris Region: This region will host events in existing infrastructure, including the Parc des Princes, Roland Garros, and the Accor Arena.
- Seine Riverbanks: The riverbanks will act as a hub for spectators, with shows, concerts, and other events.
- Saint-Denis: The Stade de France will host athletics and rugby.
- Colombes: The Yves-du-Manoir stadium will host field hockey.
- Versailles: The Palace of Versailles will host equestrian events.
- Villeneuve-d’Ascq (near Lille): The Pierre de Mauroy stadium will host handball.
The men’s and women’s football matches will be spread across several cities, while sailing will be held in Marseille and surfing in Teahupo’o, Tahiti. This decentralised approach aims to create a nationwide celebration of sport and culture.[ii]
Vaping In Paris at The Olympic Games
In France, vaping is generally permitted in bars, restaurants, and outdoor public areas. However, it is prohibited in:
- Educational institutions
- Public transport
- Open-plan offices
Individual businesses have the right to ban vaping on their premises. Violators of these regulations may be fined.[iii]
Buying Vapes In Paris
The regulations in France adhere to a strict age limit of 18, including all vape products from electronic cigarettes and e-liquids to batteries, mods, and box mods. Retailers are required by law to enforce this age restriction, and you might be required to verify your ID if you appear youthful, likely under 23[iv].
To avoid any inconvenience upon arrival, consider purchasing your vape kits and vape juice before your trip to France. This way, you can shop many options and select the perfect vape kit and e-liquid flavours of your choice.
The Eleaf iStick i75, with its long-lasting battery that mirrors the endurance of a 10km runner, is a great choice for those who prioritise longer vaping sessions.
If you prefer a more stylish vape, the Skope Air, with its sleek design reminiscent of equestrian elegance, might be a better fit.
Remember, regardless of your choice, it’s important to be mindful of airport regulations when travelling with vapes to ensure a smooth and hassle-free journey.
Buying Disposables in France
There’s a potential upcoming ban on single-use disposable e-cigarettes, driven by concerns over youth appeal and environmental impact. While the French Parliament has unanimously voted in favour, the ban still requires approval from the Senate and the EU Commission. If passed, it could take effect as early as September 2024.
This potential ban specifically targets disposable vapes, which differ from reusable devices because they are not designed for refilling or recharging[v].
However, it’s important to note that the ban is still pending and its final implementation remains uncertain due to the recent parliamentary changes[vi].
Totally Wicked Gold Medal winners
I’ve covered vaping at the Olympic games, now its time to hand out our won gold medals. I asked our incredible community to vote in our social media “Golden Champions” poll. The aim was to determine which of our vape kits and e-liquids deserve the ultimate recognition: the coveted Gold Medal award. To ensure a comprehensive selection, I also included a couple of our best-selling kits based on recent sales reports from November 2023 to June 2024.
Gold Vape Kits Winners
The results are in for the gold-winning vape kits from Totally Wicked. With a total of 141 votes across our curated list of kits, the arc 5 emerged as the clear winner, securing over 50% of the votes.
Arc 5
The arc 5, available since 2017, remains a popular choice among vapers[vii]. It features a robust 2200mAh battery, providing 8 to 12 hours of usage before needing a recharge. The tank is uses CS atomizers with three available ohm resistances: 0.75, 1.2, and 1.5. The device includes an OLED screen that displays battery level, wattage, voltage output, and coil ohm resistance.
Here is what one of our customers, Jack G, had to say about the arc 5:
Easy to use and battery is amazing
“Had this a few months, battery's lasts me all day, definitely recommend!"
Tornado GTL
While our customers voted for the arc 5, sales figures tell a different story[viii]. The Tornado GTL was our most popular vape kit until last month. Launched in 2022, this pen-style vape kit features a built-in 1500mAh battery that lasts most vapers a full day before needing a recharge. It is available in four different colours: Black, Blue, Pink, and Silver. This kit is fully deserving of a gold medal.
Efsun hit the nail on the head with their review:
“…Battery life, coil life, charging time, ergonomics, no leaking at all, easy to fill easy to clean. The flavour, the amount of cloud... the best vape I have ever found so far (for my liking)"
VLTZ flex Pro
In March 2024, we launched the VLTZ Flex Pro Bar, and it quickly became a huge hit. Last month, it overtook the Tornado GTL to become our most popular kit[viii]. It's simple-to-use refillable pod system is a great next step for vapers looking to move away from disposable vapes toward more sustainable and cost-effective options. The flex pro refillable pod has a resistance of 0.8ohm and provides insanely good flavour when combined with VLTZ bar salts.
Looking for the convenience of single-use vapes? Here’s what Mark had to say about the VLTZ Flex Pro Bar:
“A great device. Simple to use, delivers great flavour with their VLTZ liquid. Easy to use, good battery, very simple to use“
Gold Vape Juice Winners
Our next poll focused on the e-liquids available at Totally Wicked. Choosing the best vape juice can be challenging given the large variety of flavours. The poll received 275 responses, with over half of our customers favouring Red Label. This vape liquid, also came out victorious based on our sales data[viii].
Red Label
Red Label has been on our shelves for over 10 years and has earned more than 180 five-star reviews, this is reflected in our public poll[ix]. Thousands of vapers have used it to help quit smoking, and it offers a range of over 60 flavours, from iced blackcurrant to menthol. The vape juice features a balanced 50/50 PG/VG ratio and is compatible with most vape kits available.
Dixy shared their experience in December 2023 about how Red Label helped them quit cigarettes:
“I quit smoking 7 years ago and started to use Red Label Blueberry. I have never felt the need to try other makes or flavours because this one suits and is from a trusted supplier."
VLTZ bar salts
While Red Label takes the glory for sales and public opinion, VLTZ also deserves recognition with a gold medal. In 2023, the VLTZ Pink Lemonade flavour won its own gold award from Vapouround for the best salt nicotine. VLTZ is renowned for its insanely intense flavours, comparable to those found in disposables.
Adam reviewed VLTZ in April 2024, they also found the flavours to be better than those found in disposables:
“After trying so many different liquids and not being satisfied, I kept buying disposables instead, then I found these liquids, they taste even better and are much cheaper, energy ice and banana are my favourites, 100% recommend."
I've covered the essentials of vaping in at the Olympic games, potential changes in disposable vape laws, and even highlighted some gold-medal worthy vape kits and e-liquids based on our community’s votes and sales data.
Now, I'd love to hear from you! Leave a comment below with any vape kits or e-liquids that you think deserve a gold medal.
