I was lucky enough to get my hands on the new Lumina pod style kit and have had the pleasure of using it for the last couple of weeks. As a vaper of 5 years, I've used all kinds of different devices and have always preferred pen-style kits over other types and was looking forward to giving this one a go. My review of the Lumina will explore the vape's features and performance, which include:
- Button or draw activation
- Smart technology
- Adjustable settings
- Digital screen
- Pod cross compatibility
Button & Draw Activated
The Lumina offers the best of both worlds – both draw and button activation, providing flexibility in vaping style. While the draw activation initially felt tighter compared to other kits like the Flex Pro Bar, this was easily adjusted using the airflow control on the back of the device. After a few quick adjustments, I soon found a comfortable airflow I was happy with.
I also gave the button activation a go. Found on the side of the device, it provides another way to enjoy the vape. Pressing the button heats up the vapour, rather than relying on me inhaling on it. Funnily enough, even though my preference is to use a more draw activated vape, I found myself using the button more frequently over time, appreciating the extra control it offered.
Smart Technology
Vape technology is ever evolving, finding new ways to make life easier, and even a bit more interesting for us vapers. I love vapes that offer that added wow factor, as long as it serves a purpose and the Lumina provides just that. It has smart tech built in, in the form of an automatic ohm detection system. When you insert a pod, it automatically figures out the resistance and sets the wattage to the optimal level. This eliminates any guesswork and makes it easy to use, even for beginners who don’t want to mess with settings. Of course, you can still change the wattage manually if you want, which I’ll cover in the next section.
Changing Settings On The Lumina
I mentioned the button for heating up the vapour, but there's actually a lot more to it. It's basically a little control centre for the device. To turn it on or off, you just press the button five times quickly. You can also use the button to adjust the wattage settings by pressing it three times while it's on. I played around with those for a while, before removing and re-inserting the pod to reset it back to optimal settings.
The button also lets you reset the puff counter. Hold it down for three seconds while the device is off, and it'll go back to zero. It’s a handy little feature, especially if you’re keeping track of your vaping habits.
To make your life a little easier, I've made a quick guide for the Lumina settings:
- Turn the Lumina on: Press 5 times in quick succession while device is turned off
- Turn the Lumina off: Press 5 times in quick succession while device is turned on
- Changing the wattage: Press 3 times while device is turned on
- Reset puff count: Hold for 3 seconds while device is turned off
- Revert wattage settings: Remove and replace the pod
Lumina Digital Screen
Remember how I said I love vapes with practical tech? Well, one of my favourite features of the Lumina is the digital screen on the front of the pod kit. The battery life is shown with a mobile-style battery icon and four bars. No more guessing how much battery life is left or wondering if you need to charge before heading out. It’s nice to have a clear indication of how much power you have left. While charging, the bars flash to indicate the current charge level.
The screen also displays the current wattage setting and a puff counter. After each puff, the counter goes up by one, and it resets automatically after reaching 999. Once a puff is added, the screen goes back to showing the wattage and battery life before going into sleep mode until the button is used or you draw on the pen.
Having a digital screen on a vape kit is a welcome addition. I’m used to just seeing green, blue, white or red lights for battery indicators, but this screen provides much more detailed information, which is very helpful.
Cross Compatible Pods With Lumina
Conveniently, the Lumina’s refillable pod (LX pod) is compatible with our range of VLTZ Flex Pro pre-filled pod flavours and Flex Pro refillable pods, so if you're a fan of the intense VLTZ flavours you can still enjoy them with this kit. While the refillable pod is the same 0.8 ohm as the LX pod included with the device, the Flex Pro pre-filled pods have a 1.2 ohm resistance. This is where the automatic ohm detection system kicks in, adjusting the wattage to match the new resistance.
If you prefer a sliding top-fill pod, you can use the LX pods in your Flex Pro Bar and Flex Pro Box pod kits.
Here’s a quick list of compatible pods for the Lumina:

LX Pods For With The Lumina
The Lumina comes with a 0.8ohm pod, which is really easy to set up. You just slide it into the holder, fill it with your favourite e-liquid (I went with my personal favourite, VLTZ Lemon Limeade), let it sit for three minutes to prime, and it’s ready to vape.
The pod is held in place by magnets, so there’s no need to twist or fiddle with it like some other vape kits. This magnetic system is becoming more common in newer kits and it makes for a better user experience overall.
To fill the pod, I simply nudged the mouthpiece with my thumb to reveal the fill port. Then, add e-liquid, leaving a 2mm air pocket to prevent flooding the chamber and coil. It’s a straightforward and efficient process – even while out walking.
Final Thoughts On The Lumina
Overall, I was impressed with the Lumina vape kit. Even though I’m not too familiar with buttons, wattage settings, and airflow adjustment, I found the device easy to adapt to. The digital screen is a real game-changer, and being able to see the battery level with four bars gave me peace of mind. The pen itself feels similar to hold as the VLTZ Flex Pro Bar, but with the added benefit of adjustable airflow and wattage – and a puff counter.
The Lumina charged in just under an hour, which is becoming standard for this type of kit. The refillable LX pod with top filling is really convenient, especially for topping up on the go.
I would definitely recommend this kit to anyone using the VLTZ flex Pro range as a next step with more control of the vaping experience.
