"A simple yet reliable vape kit which is truly leak resistant can be hard to come by, but the Tornado EN answered my prayers emphatically."
Tornado EN Vape Kit Video
In recent times, I've stripped my vaping preferences right back, simply relying on something that is hassle-free, doesn't have gimmicks and just works well. My vape of choice for the last few months was therefore the VLTZ flex Pro, which is still a firm favourite of mine. Nevertheless, I must admit i’m beginning to long for something with maybe a little bit more power and longer battery life. As if by magic, I was asked to test the Tornado EN and it couldn't have fit the bill more aptly. While this kit may keep things simple, there's still plenty for me to cover so read on to find out why this kit is my new number one vape.
- Unique, leak-resistant filling & replaceable EN atomizer heads
- Smart power mode
- 1500mAh battery with LED indicator
Did the Tornado EN pass the battery life test?
If you've read my previous reviews, you'll know that my battery life benchmark is for a vape to last at least a day between charges. Needing to recharge midway through the day or taking a spare battery out and about is not really for me, so my vape battery needs to last. I can safely say that with the standard atomizers fitted, the Tornado EN's 1500mAh lasted a full day... and then some. That's the first test passed and the first big tick for the Tornado EN.
Another vape feature which is not quite a dealbreaker, but close to, is an LED indicator. There's nothing worse than being caught out with a depleting battery and not knowing when it's going to run out. The good news is that the Tornado EN has an easy to understand 3 colour indicator ring. A Green light indicates more than 70%, blue signals that there's between 30% -and 70% battery life left, and when the light is red, you're on less than30%. Another tick for the Tornado EN.
Power & Output
Adjustable wattage, variable voltage, and temperature control may still be essential factors for many vapers but for my personal needs, they're not high up my priorities list. In fact, I prefer a vape which will do the work for me and selects my power level automatically. The Tornado EN does just that, thanks to it's SMART technology which detects the resistance of the atomizer head and sets the optimum wattage.
I will take a closer look at the EN atomizer heads later on in this review, but of the two resistances I tested, the automatic power adjustment was of course noticeable yet seamless. Not having to worry about setting the correct output level and not being concerned about the level accidentally changing in my pocket allowed me to get on with the important things, like enjoying my favourite VLTZ flavour!
Look and feel of the Tornado EN
There's not a whole lot to say about size and shape of the Tornado EN. It's a compact pen-style vape. This is a pretty common design but with good reason. Pen-style vapes have always been popular as they utilise space well by following the form of battery. This keeps the kit as compact as possible without compromising on battery size. The one thing I did notice about the stature of the Tornado EN was how lightweight it is. This suits my preferences down to a tee, as I prefer not to have a heavy device weighing my pockets down.
The finish of the Tornado EN is where this kit's appearance really shines. There are four colour options, all of which have a metallic silver as the base colour. If you prefer to keep things simple, the full silver option is the way to go. If you prefer to add a touch of flair to proceedings then there are three gradient options whereby the silver base fades into red, blue or black. My football team allegiances led me towards to the red option and in my opinion, it really looks the part.
Tornado EN Pod Cartridge
The Tornado EN battery is paired with a plastic pod-style cartridge, but unlike most, it's topped with a durable stainless steel ring. This 2ml pod is recessed into the battery and is held snugly in place with a strong magnetic connection. The benefits of a pod-style cartridge are that they're almost impossible to break (unlike glass tanks), and they're often very simple to use. As a clumsy vaper who values simplicity, a pod cartridge is ideal for myself. The Tornado EN cartridge in particular is an absolute dream, primarily due to its leak-resistance and nifty filling mechanism.
Unique Leak-resistant filling
At first glance, I was unsure how to fill this pod. This is because the filling port is hidden by the airflow ring on the pod. The ring is rotated to show the rubber bung which is undone for simple refilling. While rubber bungs are a great, cost-effective way of sealing e-liquid within the cartridge, they don't always look the easiest on the eye. By covering this bung, the airflow ring not only allows you to tailor your airflow but also adds to aesthetics of the kit. You can even refill while the pod is fitted in the battery, and your e-liquid level is visible through the bottom window. Of course with the filling bung concealed by the airflow ring, there is no way it can come out accidentally, and release the contents of the cartridge into your pocket or onto a table.
While this refill more 'nice to have' than gimmick, the most impressive functional feature is the pod's leak-resistance. As a vaper of 8 years, I've experienced my fair share of leaky vapes. While some vapers may accept a level of leakage, it's one of my biggest gripes. Besides disposables and pre-filled pods, the Tornado EN is the most reliable kit I've used in terms of leak-resistance. Although 'leak-proof' is a claim which cannot be used, in my experience this pod did not leak a single drop. Once again, another huge tick for this device which is fast becoming one of my all-time favourites.
EN Atomizer Heads
As you may have guessed, the Tornado EN utilises atomizer heads from the EN range. These are replaceable atomizers which have gained a strong following with Totally Wicked vapers. They have a push fit connection, which makes swapping them in and out stress-free. The 0.8ohm version is kitted with the Tornado EN. I also tested the 1.2ohm version which is available as an accessory and is perfect if you prefer to vape at lower powers. My preference was the 0.8ohm, which is an atomizer I have used on numerous occasions, including in the Skope Air, which was my go-to for a long period of time.
The EN 0.8ohm excels in terms of flavour representation. It provides a vivid, clean taste from the e-liquid of choice and the lifespan of the coil is more than satisfactory, even with Bar Salts. My liquid of choice was VLTZ Rainbow Burst in a 1.0% strength and this device did the flavour absolute justice.
Totally Wicked Pro Tip
As a quick side note, if you like sweet, intense flavours like those in disposables, you need to give VLTZ Rainbow Burst a try!
Final Thoughts on the Tornado EN Vape Kit
When I first heard about the Tornado EN, it initially didn't give me a lot of reason to get excited. However, that pessimism quickly dissipated when I started using the kit. Perhaps as I've reached my 30s, I've begun to appreciate that simplicity and reliability really are the keys to success. This kit has both of those in abundance. A simple, yet reliable, vape kit which is truly leak resistant can be hard to come by, but the Tornado EN answered my prayers emphatically. At just £25.99 including a bottle of e-liquid, this vape is perfect for entry level vapers, vapers moving in from a disposable or pre-filled kit and also for experienced vapers who just want something that works, and works well.
