No matter how long we have been using an e-cig, we all make vaping errors. Some mistakes can easily be avoided.
Avoiding them means we don’t have to go through the frustration, annoyance and spending more of our time and hard earned cash than we want to. So, what are they? Let’s take a look at eight vaping errors and how you can avoid them.

1. Not vaping smart
This means not getting advice on the right e-cig kit or vape set up for you.
Vaping used to have little choice. This meant it tended to be very simple. You bought an e-cig, a few pre-filled cartridges and that was it.
Now, for new vapers especially it can seem complicated at first. For vaping to work for you, it’s essential that you keep it simple and smart. You need an e-cig and e-liquid that works for you. You don’t need to buy everything off the shelf, just enough to get you off the fags.
Good advice here is key, so get yourself to a shop if you can, the trained staff can then walk you through the process and help you pick the perfect e-cig.
2. Getting too technical too quickly
Seamlessly following on from number 1. You get an e-cig, like it, it works and you are happily vaping away. You see a workmate with a bigger/better/shinier vape kit and you want one too. Only this one not only vapes your favourite e-liquid, it talks to your smartphone, produces obscene amounts of vapour and can be used as a radar detector (not really).
It is vital when upgrading that you understand how the technical devices work, otherwise you are in for a frustrating vaping experience. Refresh your memory regarding ohms law, (or learn it properly this time around!). Come into a store, or call us and we will talk you through it, you can also do your research online. You will save yourself dry hits, killing coils and burning through your money.

3. Dry hits
Why does this happen? Dry coils and not wicking properly. Either the wattage is wrong, or there is not enough e liquid in the wick.
This burns the coil, tastes foul and ruins your vape. Always know the ohms/wattage/coil resistance that your vape needs. The wrong wattage will mean burning. Remember to also feed the coil with e-liquid, AND let it prime and soak in before you start vaping.
4. The wrong e liquid – pg/vg/ nicotine mix.
Too little nicotine, you won’t like it. Too much, same thing. Wrong pg/vg mix? You won’t like it, it might make you cough, or you won’t feel any throat hit. See our nicotine strength guide to help you understand which strength e-liquid is best for you.
New to vaping? We usually advise a 20 a day smoker to start around 1.8% (18mg/ml) e-liquid, as you may need the higher strengths of nicotine to start with. When you smoke tobacco, the nicotine is very rapidly absorbed into your blood stream. It takes longer with vaping.
5. Not asking for advice
See point 1.
6. Wrong charger for your vape
E-cigs are an electronic device and using the wrong charging equipment is asking for trouble. Almost all cases of charging issues you see in the news are because of user error, someone using a charger not designed for e-cigs.
Always use the charger that came with the device, and read the instructions. Please also remember to turn off your device before you put it in your pocket/handbag and DON’T carry removable batteries it with loose change, or keys!
7. Choosing poor quality vaping products
This can be hugely frustrating. Poor products will break down, they won’t produce the flavour and vapour that you want, and in the long run will cost you more money. Cheap is expensive.
Invest in good quality vaping gear and it will pay you back. It will last, it will do the job well.
8. Vaping like a smoker
Vaping is completely different than smoking a tobacco cigarette. When vaping you don’t inhale as hard. Some like to inhale into their mouth first, this gives them a hit of flavour, and then they inhale into their lungs. Others inhale straight into their lungs.
Vaping needs a different technique, and those first few puffs can put people off because they think that vaping is smoking. It isn’t.
