Getting started with vaping, or even just trying to improve your setup, comes with a lot of questions. And you’re probably wondering if there are any vaping hacks and money saving tips to help you along the way. I’ve been vaping for a good while now, and I’ve learned through trial and error what works and what doesn’t. This isn’t a technical manual by any means, its the sort of straightforward advice I’ve picked up along the way. These are the fundamental vaping tips I genuinely believe make the biggest difference day to day.
Use Devices with Smart Tech
For new vapers looking for a bit more control without things getting overly complicated, pod kits with built-in smart technology make life a lot easier. Kits like the Aeromax Boost and Mavro automatically detect the pod’s coil and recommend the ideal wattage for you. It really does take the guesswork out of the equation. Both kits also allow for airflow adjustments, so you can tailor the draw to suit your own preferences too.
The Aeromax Boost in particular is worth a mention here. It comes with a 1300mAh battery and a variable output range of 8-40W, with a memory function that actually recalls your preferred wattage after just two consecutive puffs with the same pod. Once its set up, it just works the way you want it to. Its a really solid choice for vapers who want that extra level of control without spending ages fiddling with settings.
Priming is Top Priority
If you’re using a vape that comes with an empty refillable pod, you will need to prime it before you use it. To some who read through my guides, you might be getting slightly bored of reading this over and over, but it’s one of the top vaping tips I can suggest. I fully get it – when you fill the pod, you want to vape immediately. But it’s imperative you wait the recommended 3-5 minutes for the coil wick to fully soak up the vape juice. This helps stop the coil from burning out, which would mean you’d have to wait even longer to vape your favourite e-liquids.
If you’re concerned about priming or think it’s too much hassle, try using a pre-filled pod vape instead. These are already primed and ready to go.
Avoid Overfilling the Pod
While priming matters, its just as important not to overfill the pod when you do get to it. Overfilling floods the coil, which leads to gurgling, e-liquid in your mouth, and a damaged coil that’ll need replacing sooner than it should. To avoid this, always leave a small air gap at the top of the pod. And try not to squeeze the bottle too hard either, because when you release the pressure, air rushes back in and can push liquid over the fill line.
Master Your Vaping Technique
How you vape can make a big difference and mastering your technique is a good vaping tip. Try taking slower, longer draws rather than short, quick puffs. This technique helps prevent dry hits and generally produces better, more consistent vapour. If you find the hit on your throat is too harsh, try lowering your device’s wattage or switching to an e-liquid with a higher VG ratio, which is typically smoother.
Basic Device Maintenance

A little bit of upkeep really does go a long way. Wipe down the exterior and mouthpiece regularly to keep things clean, and pay attention to how your device is performing. When you start to notice a burnt taste or vapour production dropping off, that’s usually a sign the coil needs replacing. For most people that’s every week or two depending on how heavily you vape. Storing the device upright when you’re not using it is also worth getting into the habit of, it helps prevent leaking down the line.
Battery Care Fundamentals
Proper battery care is crucial for safety and longevity. Try not to let your battery drain completely before charging it, and just as importantly, avoid overcharging it by leaving it plugged in for hours after it’s full. If your device uses removable batteries, having a few spares on hand is a game-changer. Keep all batteries away from extreme heat or cold and replace them once they no longer hold a charge well.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Even with a perfect setup, you can run into little problems. Here are some quick fixes:
- Spitback (hot liquid in your mouth): This often happens from drawing too hard. Try taking gentler draws or slightly lowering your wattage.
- Weak Flavour: First, check if your coil needs replacing. If the coil is fine, your wattage might be set too low to properly vaporise the liquid.
- Gurgling Sounds: This usually means there’s too much e-liquid in the coil. You can often clear it by taking a few sharp pulls on the device without pressing the fire button.
How to Save Money in the Long Run
While vaping is generally cheaper than smoking, there are ways to make it even more cost-effective.
Use Refillable Pods
Refillable pods can be filled multiple times before they need replacing, from my experience its usually around 10 fills before you’d want to swap them out. They let you buy e-liquid more cheaply and make the most of multibuy offers and vape deals. Buying in bulk or taking advantage of mix and match promotions can cut your costs significantly over the course of a month.
A great example of a refillable kit that’s built for the long haul is the Aeromax Boost. The dual mesh Aero Boost pods deliver great consistent flavour right through their lifespan, and the side-fill system means you can top up without even taking the pod out of the device. Pair it with VLTZ Ultra e-liquid and you’re getting excellent flavour at a much lower ongoing cost than pre-filled options.
Consider Big Puff Vapes
If you prefer something more convenient and closer to the disposable experience, big puff vapes are a solid option. Devices like the VLTZ-X GO 10 mean you don’t need to refill often, as it features a large 10ml capacity. Then there are devices like the IVG Pro 12, which can push up to 10,000 puffs before you need to think about replacing anything. The upfront cost is a bit higher but the value per puff tends to work out much better.
The Ultimate Vaping Tip
My personal favourite tip for saving money is a Totally Wicked Subscription. You get up to 40% off e-liquids and free delivery. It's contract-free and you can get pre-filled pods delivered for as little as £2 each.
