Whether it's new flavours, new colours or in this instance a new device, additions to the VLTZ range is always music to my ears. The VLTZ flex Pro Box is no different and after trying this vape, my fondness of the VLTZ range has grown even stronger. I've been using this product for a couple of months now and have tested it out alongside its close family member, the VLTZ flex Pro Bar. I will be focusing on the flex Pro Box in this piece, but if you also want to learn more about the Pro Bar, be sure check out my VLTZ flex Pro Bar review.
Back to the Box and Let's take a look at exactly how this vape takes the VLTZ range to the next level.
Look & Feel of the VLTZ flex Pro Box
As is tradition, we start with the look & feel of the kit. As the name suggest, it's a box-style vape which means it remains compact, lightweight and fits snuggly in the palm of your hand. In recent times, the box-style vape has soared in popularity but granted it isn't for everyone. Whilst straddling both sides of the fence isn't always a great trait when writing a review, I'm relatively flexible when it comes to box-style vs pen-style vapes. As long as it sits comfortably in my hand and fits in my pocket, I'm usually happy and each device ticks both those boxes.
The design itself is unique in that the outer casing is semi-transparent, making the inner workings of the vape visible. The physical battery within the unit features a graphic metallic wrap, adding that little bit of pizzazz to proceedings. There are four colour options currently available, each with a different casing and battery wrap style. Choose between Black, Blue, Purple or Yellow. For me the yellow really caught the eye and was therefore my preferred choice.
VLTZ flex Pro pods - pre-filled or refillable... you decide
The pods utilised in the flex Pro Box are potentially the most unique and defining factor. This vape gives you the option of using either pre-filled or refillable pods. This versatility not only means the flex Pro Box is built to suit different preferences but I found it really useful to have both pod options and flip between the two depending on what I was up to. When at home or at the office, I'd stick to my refillable pod and trusty Rainbow Burst VLTZ e-liquid. If I was venturing out for the evening, I'd take a few pre-filled pods with me for ultimate simplicity.
Pre-filled pods
I've not had chance to make it through all 20 pre-filled pod flavours but of the ones I've tried, I'm very impressed. The flavour profiles are sweet and intense, and the draw is really smooth. Whilst I'd usually opt for a refillable vape, these pre-filled pods gave me strong grounds to switch allegiances to the pre-filled party as the flavour was phenomenal. The beauty of a pre-filled pod is that there's no hassle in needing to refill. Once the pod runs out simply put a new one in.
Refillable pod
As delighted as I was with the pre-filled pods, I usually opt for a refillable solution for the cost-savings. The good news is that there is also no compromise on flavour or performance when using these refillable pods with 10ml VLTZ e-liquid. They are also really simple to refill via the bung at the side. Another plus is that VLTZ refills are available in 1.0% which is my preferred nicotine strength.
Both these pod types have their benefits but they both share a huge plus in that the flavour provided by VLTZ e-liquid is vivid and intense. There's no right or wrong pod to opt for; they are both available as each vaper is different and have varying wants and needs.
How does the VLTZ flex Pro Box battery perform?
When it comes to battery capacity, my basic requirement is for a vape to last a full day between charges. The VLTZ flex Pro Box certainly satisfied this need and, in fact, lasted me around day and a half before I need to recharge. The capacity is 1000mAh, which for a product of its type and size is very impressive. For context, market-leading pre-filled pod batteries tend to have a capacity of between 400mAh and 750mAh.
One of my main bugbears regarding disposable vapes, and many pre-filled pod vape devices, is the lack of consistency. With most vapes of this type, I notice a significant drop off in the power and flavour as the battery depletes. However, this doesn't happen with the VLTZ flex Pro Box thanks to it operating at constant voltage. This means the output remains at the same level regardless of remaining battery and ultimately results in unparallelled consistency throughout.
Battery charge Indicator
Another annoyance of mine when using disposable or pre-filled pod vape batteries is not knowing when they are going to run out of battery. There's nothing worse than being caught short with a dead battery when out and about. I was therefore relieved to discover the Pro Box features a battery indicator. The simple 3-colour LED system illuminates green for 60% + remaining battery, white for 20 - 59% remaining battery and red for less than 20% remaining battery.
When the battery did run out it took just over one hour to fully recharge thanks to USB-C technology. The VLTZ flex Pro Box also has passthrough charging, another handy feature which not all pre-filled pod batteries possess. This basically means I could use the device whilst it was charging.
Do its features make the VLTZ flex Pro Box simple to use?
This device was built for simplicity while maintaining a level of versatility. There are no buttons to press as the Pro Box uses automatic activation. Simply inhale on the mouthpiece to activate it. There are no atomizer heads to change in either pod option so once the coil needs changing in the refillable pod, or the liquid is used up in the pre-filled pod, simply replace the whole pod.
The versatility comes from the airflow control which is controlled via the lever on the front edge. This allowed me to tailor the device to my personal preferences which was ideal for when I switched between pre-filled and refillable pods. When using the refillable pods, I preferred a slightly airier draw so opened the airflow to around half way. With the pre-filled pods, my preference was to close the airflow completely.
Is the VLTZ flex Pro Box good value for money?
There are two prices for the VLTZ flex Pro kit depending on whether you opt for a pre-filled pod or a refillable pod with 10ml VLTZ e-liquid. Both options are incredible value for money, coming in at £9.99 for the pre-filled version and £11.99 for the refillable version. Pre-filled pods can then be picked up from just £2.25 a pod when making the most of multibuys which is a significant saving compared with disposable vapes.
The refillable pods cost £2.99 each and should last for at least 20ml of VLTZ e-liquid before they need changing. This is an ongoing saving of more than 70%* compared with using disposable vapes.
Granted, there are cheaper pre-filled pod batteries out there but not with the functionality, performance and versatility of the VLTZ flex Pro Box. In my opinion, spending an extra three or four pounds on a high-performance battery which suits my exact needs is the best way to go. Constant voltage, a battery which lasts more than a day, and USB-C charging are all features I would expect from a £20 – £30 vape so to see them on a device costing less than £10 is astounding.
All in all, this vape is certainly one of the best in its category and is currently my all day vape of choice, alongside the flex Pro Bar. It's the most fully featured pre-filled pod system I've ever used and has the versatility to suit all vapers.
