Is vaping cheaper than smoking?
Basically, we believe the simple answer to the question 'Is vaping cheaper than smoking?' is yes!
How much can vaping save you?
Making the switch from smoking to vaping will not only have an impact on your health and general wellbeing, - the potential impact on your monthly budget is astounding. By making the switch to smoking you can save up to £3,200 a year.
The cost of smoking goes up every year and it is becoming more difficult to smoke on a budget. But how much can you save by switching to vaping? Let’s take a look at the numbers and see just how much money you can save by stopping smoking and starting vaping.
How much do you spend on smoking?
The cost of cigarettes changes each year. So, for this we will look at a person who smokes 20 a day and chooses a popular brand of cigarettes.
A pack of 20 cigarettes cost - £10.60
£10.60 x 365 = £3,869
That is nearly £4,000 a year on smoking. Over a lifetime (50 years of smoking) that could be approaching £200,000, on cigarettes alone.
How much does vaping cost?
To calculate the yearly cost of vaping we will use the ‘average’ vaper as an example. You would need a starter e-cig kit / vape kit, an average of 10 bottles of e-liquid per month and adding on the replacement atomizer heads and associated peripherals throughout the year.
All of that for a year would be £633.60 per year.
If we deduct that from our cost of smoking we have this:
£3869 – £633.60 = £3235.20!
That is a saving of over £3,200 per year, just by making the switch to vaping. Of course the price on your health through choosing to vape pver smoking is priceless.
How to save even more money when vaping?
While making the switch to vaping will save you a huge chunk of cash on its own, here are some steps you can take to save even more money.
Keep an eye on your e-liquid consumption. If you feel like you are vaping too much e-liquid, it could mean that you need to adjust your nicotine strength. If you are vaping an e-liquid with a lower nicotine strength than you need, you may find yourself reaching for your e-cig much more than usual. Try an e-liquid with a higher nicotine strength to see if this helps.
Make sure you are keeping up with your e-cig maintenance. While taking care of your e-cig is a given, it is easy to let a few things slip meaning you might have to buy more replacements that you usually would and over the course of a year these add up. As an example, make sure you are keeping your e-cig tank topped up. If this runs dry and you don’t realise, you can easily burn your atomizer head, meaning you will need to buy replacements which could have easily been avoided.
Don’t buy large quantities of e-liquid unless you know you like the flavour. We have all been there. There are so many amazing flavours of e-liquid that it can be easy to want to try them all, so we buy everything as we just know we are going to love them. But vape juice is like food - what one person loves, someone else will hate. Buy one bottle of a new flavour in the right nicotine strength before you commit to stocking up. This way you won’t have wasted money and be stuck with full bottles of vape juice that you don’t like.
Remember that you don’t need every new e-cig that is released. Shiny syndrome is real and when you first make the switch it is an exciting time. There are so many vape mods and tanks, different styles and shapes, all with different features. But this cost can add up quickly if you are buying a new e-cig every week. Remember if it is keeping you away from cigarettes then it’s doing its job.
